At the Earth's Core is a novel published in 1914 by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It is also the first book in the Pellucidar series, being succeed by Pellucidar.
Synopsis[]
David Innes is a miner who is the pilot to the experimental excavation vehicle, the Iron mole. It was designed by his friend, the elderly inventor Abner Perry.
The Iron mole burrows deep into the Earth's surface into a world called Pellucidar which is inhabited by prehistoric species such as the intelligent flying reptiles, the Mahar who are civilized but prey on the stone age humans. Innes and Perry are captured and taken to the city of Phutra by the Sagoth, ape like servants of the Mahar. He meets other prisoners such as the ape Ghak from the country of Sari and Hooja the Sly One. He also falls in love with the beautiful princess Dian from Amoz.
