Olvia Marthis is a princess of Hastor, being the daughter of its Jed. Like all Martian princesses, she is very lovely. She is also a good friend of Tara of Helium, who is puzzled and a little upset by the strong and unpleasant emotion she experiences upon seeing her intended Djor Kantos deep in conversation with her dear friend.

The ending of the novel is almost entirely due to Olvia Marthis. Djor Kantos, believing that his fiancee is dead, turns to her for comfort and has married her by the time Tara is rediscovered in Manator, leaving her free for the panthan Turan aka Gahan of Gathol.
